Distant Cowboy
While Distant Cowboy’s musical life began in the mountains of Wyoming, he later studied cello at Boston Conservatory and in Milan at the Verdi Conservatory. His classical background is widely diverse. He was principal cellist at the Honors Orchestra at the Kennedy Center directed by Ryan McAdams, as well as principal cellist of All-Northwest Honors Orchestra at Benaroya Hall under the direction of Gerard Schwarz. He has performed with Symphony Nova in Boston, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, and has participated with full scholarship to the following music festivals: Stanford University, Cremona Foundation, Cremona Italy, Heartland Chamber Music Festival, and Glenn Korff School of Music.
As a solo artist DC began to release singles from his discography after his improvs gained traction on TikTok in 2021. His dreamy, soothing tones have been featured in thousands of UGC videos and have been viewed by millions of fans. DC’s sound combines the natural world with western and folk influences, weaving elements of the baroque with cinematic drama. Distant plays on a Henri Farny Cello dated 1910 which thrills with its warm, rich tone.
Distant also scores many independent and dance films. He was commissioned in 2020 to write the complete score for “MBCH” a solo dance project through grants of Arts Fund in New York. He also recently finished writing the score to the newest piece commissioned by Boston Moving Arts “Topia”. Distant participated in writing music for PORTRAIT by the TL Collective for “Poussin and the Dance” at the Getty Museum. Distant Cowboy’s ongoing dance collaboration is with Kylie Shea (ballerina). The duo has several projects in the works for 2023.
