We are seeking our first Open Source Community Manager/Maintainer to develop and execute our first open source project in the consumer media space. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the open source community, extensive relationships within the space, and experience with university recruiting. You will be responsible for fostering a vibrant and engaged community around our project, driving community collaboration, roadmap prioritization and ensuring code commits are high-quality and aligned to roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage and grow our open source community. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all contributors.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the open source community, including developers, contributors, and other organizations.
- University Recruiting: Partner with universities to identify and recruit top talent for our open source projects.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for the community. Communicate effectively across various channels, including forums, social media, and mailing lists.
- Project Management: Oversee the lifecycle of our open source projects, ensuring timely releases, managing contributions, and addressing issues and pull requests.
- Advocacy: Advocate for our open source projects within the broader tech community. Represent the organization at conferences, meetups, and other industry events.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including engineering, product, and marketing, to align open source initiatives with company goals.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the open source community, with a strong understanding of open source principles and best practices. In particular, prior experience managing successful commercial open source efforts.
- Relationships: Existing and strong network within the open source space and experience in university recruiting.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts to a diverse audience.
- Consumer and Media Experience: Preferably, experience in the consumer and media industry.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with open source tools, platforms, and development workflows. Hands-on coding experience is a plus
- Passion: A genuine passion for open source and community building.
